Coming Soon!...

I have totally neglected this blog all year :s It just been so busy, had the pleasure to work on so many exciting projects which I will quickly show you now...

The Ipanema File:

A Feature film written by Daniel Owen van Dommelen, A Fighting Badgers Ltd Production.

Joseph Day is a private investigator in London, who lives by his loose morals and selfish intent. He is his own personal twilight zone, trapped between the daily grind and a surreal world of migraine-induced hallucinations. When a mysterious billionaire hires him to track down a woman from his past, he finds himself in the middle of something bigger than his wildest imagination.

Working with the Fighting Badgers team was a pleasure and we not only got to work on and bring this amazing film to life, we had so much fun doing it!
Due to working on another film at the same time I took the role of Production Assistant, which just as much fun as I remember - a real odd jobber! I was involved in pre-production starting February this year, assisting with location scouting and contracts, then during filming getting stuck in with anything and everything that needed doing including lighting set ups, taking behind-the-scenes pics and learning the ropes with sound!
It was a really fun and valuable experience, making me love film production even more than I already do.

Location, Location, Location...

Anonymous:

It has been a mad few weeks getting locations together for our feature film 'Anonymous'. From Farm's, Plaza's, Old people's homes, Hospital's and Florist's, we have had plenty of locations to confirm ready to get started with filming on Monday!
This is the first project I have worked on that has a reasonable location budget, which makes life a lot easier getting a location confirmed when you have something to offer. Having choice and back-up options is always ideal where these can be found, but getting people to get back to you can be a long process, and you find yourself playing a waiting game. I find sending a introductory email, followed up by numerous phone calls a few days later helps push things forward.

On the rest of the pre-production, the schedule has been finalised, call sheets for week one are complete, and the cast and crew are ready to roll! One film, two weeks....Ready to go.

Below are a few pics from when I was Location scouting around London. As well as something to jot notes on, a camera and good pair of walking shoes is a must!

The end, or is it?

Dead & Awake:

So the last week of film for 'Dead and Awake'. Few easy going days at the studio and around London, then back to Kent for one more night shoot! Which turned out to be the most challenging night of them all.
So after filming most of the beginning of the film this week, which is the end of the shoot we now have a rather cool image of what it could look like all together! The exciting thing is it could turn out looking completely different from how I imagine once it has been through post production.
The experience from this film has been so valuable I could not have hope for a more enriching project to work on :D
Now to look forward to the behind the scenes video's and movie trailers that will be appearing over the next couple of months.

What's Next:

Although I hope nothing more than to work on the next Zed Resistor production, for now I will be working on a couple of interesting and very different projects.
One as Production Manager of a short film, a dark comedy called 'Childhood Lost'. This will be a small but important project that will hopefully make it's way around film festivals galore!
The other I am waiting to attend a meeting to hear more about, hopefully be taking the role of Production Manager. It will be another indie feature film due to film end of august!
The more productions will mean more experience, more contacts and more FUN! :D (and of course another step closer to leaving my part time retail job!)

Spooky goings on...

Dead & Awake:

So the 3rd week was a week of night shoots, scary stories, very cool lighting and all round fun!
A lot was going on and I got to learn a hell of a lot about lighting. As our lighting guy disappeared in the first week, thankfully our Director is experienced in many areas, and a fab tutor to learn from!
Our amazing location was a big help in bringing the right atmosphere to the cast and film, especially after hearing all the spooky happenings that go on in the house from the owner. It made it all the more fun! Secluded in the countryside and consisting of a spooky priory, stables and acres of land, it was perfect for both the production and the cast's leisure time in between scenes.

This week felt like the last week as many of the cast finished their filming and some of crew were leaving as no longer needed. I am lucky to have met and had the pleasure of working with such a brilliant and professional team.
 What are they looking at?

We even had the pleasure of adorable puppies, kittens and foals on Location.

The Kent location: A lovely country house next to St Augustine's Pirory, Ashford, Kent.

We were allowed to take over the conservatory as our production base!

Week 2...

Dead & Awake:

This week I unfortunately was only available for a couple of days, so missed out on a lot of the action. Day one went well with a kidnapping for all to see. The second day we had a car breakdown while on the pick up rounds which meant I could not get picked up and missed out on a day filming in Kent. Will be making up for it next week!
Not much to say really. So I will leave you with some snaps from Monday's Shoot...

Lets make a Movie...

Dead & Awake:

The first week is over and all seems to have slipped into place. There have been some major crew changes, which is unbelievable at how unreliable people can be when working on lower budget projects. In my opinion you should treat all projects with the same enthusiasm and hard work! But that aside, the group we now have are well suited and a pleasure to work with.

This week saw us get dark and deep with some of the more raw scenes, involving a dark basement and adventurous lighting! As well as filming in the pub situated below the studio and the park across from us. Filming in the studio and the surrounding areas gave us familiar and easy access to do the scenes needed at a good speed. The actors have really taken on the roles well and it is amazing at how much of a brilliant cast we have. Right, think it's time I will leave you with some sneak pic's from the set...

All Go...

Dead & Awake:

Just under a week till filming and the production office has been busy tying up the last bits before shooting starts next week! The cast is ready to start rehearsing, contracts have been sent (by myself personally), last crew members are coming on board and now I'm busy writing up the call sheets (something I enjoy doing) so everyone knows where they have to be and when. I always find if you start off with a good simple template and do the sheet day-by-day, it becomes a less time consuming task, but at the end of the day it is a very helpful tool while on a shoot!
Monday will see a full day of rehearsals, as well as costume fitting and a good 'get to know each other better' drink for cast and crew - (I will defiantly be attending LOL).
It's all hands on deck now, a really exciting time of the production, when we are nearly there!...

Next Production...

DEAD & AWAKE:

As 'The Sixth Monkey' production has been put on hold until later in the year, but an exciting opportunity to work on another feature film has opened up!
Another Production role for me, working with a brilliant team! I am looking forward to filming, which is due to start in June! 'Dead & Awake' is a new Psycho-gothic movie that takes you along two story lines that force characters together, becoming a thrilling, twisting tail of mystery, violence and revenge...

So here is a little teaser from the basic storyboard draft of 'Dead and Awake'...

Production Madness...

Camberwell Beauty

We are now on day seven of the Camberwell Beauty shoot, with one more day to go! It's been a manic week, with its highs and lows, but lots learnt and done. The cast were brilliant and us crew worked very hard to get sets ready in time and work to the Directors wishes. Although there seemed to be a lack of professionalism on the mangers front and their lateness was a big issue, the rest of the crew pulled together to get things sorted. So here are a few pic's from the set while the action is rolling...

Creating Crazy...

Camberwell Beauty

As soon as all the props where gathered, it was time to start making the crazy scenes of Camberwell Beauty! Our studio in Bermondsey will accommodate three of our sets, a Hospital scene, a Backstage Band scene and a Socialite Party scene. After the challenge of gathering all of the props needed on a zero-low budget, dressing the set was the best part! Seeing it come to life in front of you and being apart it's creation is the most rewarding part.

Thought I would share with you some pic's, taking you to the three sets... all in one studio!
